Substrate and preparation
To achieve optimum results, please observe the technical data sheets for all products used. The substrate must be chemically neutral, solid, dry, clean, free of grease and dust, without penetrating substances and as smooth as possible. Rough, grainy or wallpapered surfaces are not suitable and must be prepared accordingly. Very smooth surfaces can be achieved by first applying LEINOS smoothing and textured fillerthis is also the best way to achieve the elegant and exclusive character that is familiar from a palette knife technique. Unusual patterns can be achieved, for example, by first painting the substrate with LEINOS Natural Resin Emulsion Paint: Here, the brushstroke of the colour application remains visible through the glazing filler technique. Play with the various possibilities offered by a transparent filler such as LEINOS Scumble Filler. To achieve pastel shades, use half of the filler Pigment Concentrate 668 white and another coloured Pigment Concentrate.

Processing
With Japanese putties or similar suitable putties. Room and surface temperature above 15 °C.

New, untreated plaster and drywall surface:
These are, for example, gypsum, lime or cement plaster, gypsum plasterboard, gypsum fibreboard or concrete. The aforementioned substrates must be treated to reduce the strong absorbency with LEINOS Water-based Deep Sealer primed. Perfectly prepared and smooth gypsum plasters can then be coated directly with LEINOS Glaze Filler. Lime or lime-cement plasters and concrete surfaces must first be smoothed with LEINOS Smoothing and Textured Filler. Gypsum plasterboards and gypsum fibreboards can either be completely smoothed or treated with LEINOS Natural Resin Emulsion Paint depending on the desired effect.

Old paintwork and wallpaper:
Existing dispersion coatings on plaster, plasterboard, etc. must adhere firmly and can be applied without prior priming with LEINOS Natural Resin Emulsion Paint painted or covered with LEINOS smoothing and textured filler smoothed. Heavily soiled old coats should be cleaned beforehand. Old coats of distemper and flaking paint must be completely removed. Dense, barely absorbent substrates such as latex or lacquer paint coats must be very thoroughly sanded and leached, then the surfaces can be treated with LEINOS smoothing and textured filler must be smoothed. Wallpaper must be completely removed.

Mixing the Scumble Filler:
LEINOS Scumble Filler is ready to use. A small container of LEINOS Scumble Filler (0.75 litres) provides a coverage of approx. 15 m² per application, depending on the application thickness and type of design. Mix the desired quantity LEINOS Pigment Concentrate into the LEINOS Scumble Filler and stir well. Start with a small amount to begin with Pigment Concentrate and carry out preliminary tests, e.g. on a piece of plasterboard. With the addition of approx. 10 % LEINOS Pigment Concentrate you will already achieve a very strong colour tone. For delicate colours, try adding only approx. 1-2 %. If you want a more pastel colour, add a few percent of white LEINOS Pigment Concentrate. Please note: Adding more than approx. 10 % LEINOS Pigment Concentrate does not lead to a significantly more intensive colour tone, but only to more coverage of the filler layer.

Application of the Scumble Filler:
For larger areas, a so-called Venetian trowel with rounded corners and edges is usually used. Smaller areas can also be treated with a Japanese Effect Spatula, depending on the desired effect. When applying with a Venetian trowel, larger textures are achieved, while the Japanese spatula is used to realise the so-called stain technique. Lively surfaces are achieved by applying two different colours in succession, with the first layer of filler shining through the second - translucent - layer of filler. More restrained surfaces are achieved by applying two or more coats of the same colour.

Application with the Venetian trowel:
As a rule, two very thin coats are applied to the prepared surface. The first coat is applied flat and - depending on the desired effect - largely opaque. The trowel is held very flat and only a little pressure is applied. Keep changing direction and apply a slightly thinner or thicker coat. Overall, however, you should not exceed a maximum application thickness of 1 mm in order to avoid the formation of shrinkage cracks; less is more here. The second coat can be applied after approx. 2-3 hours, depending on the ambient climate. This coat should consist of a different colour and should also be applied thinly. This layer is usually translucent, so that the first layer is still visible and the combination of both layers of paint creates a new, interesting interplay of shapes and colours. Depending on personal preference, any number of additional layers of colour can be gradually applied. Very good results are normally achieved with just 2-3 coats.

Application with the Japan spatula:
The Japanese spatula is ideally suited to the stain technique, which is preferably used for smaller surfaces such as pillars, projections or fireplaces. In the first coat, small patches of filler are spread evenly over the wall. Initially, larger gaps remain, which are then closed in a second step. This technique uses the least amount of material, as only very thin layers are applied. In a further work step and with a second colour tone, everything is smoothed over again. This increases the richness of contrast and brings "depth" to the surface.

TIPS & TRICKS:

- Soft, low-contrast textures can be achieved by applying two layers of colour very close to each other, i.e. "tone-on-tone", using a Venetian trowel.
- If you want to mix very light colours, do not use less of the desired Pigment Concentrate, but add white Pigment Concentrate. For example, a very nice, light yellow colour can be obtained by adding approx. 2-3% LEINOS Pigment Concentrate Corn yellow and about 5-10% LEINOS Pigment Concentrate white.
- If you want to achieve very strong to dark colour shades, you can add approx. 10 to max. 20 % of the Scumble Filler LEINOS Pigment Concentrate to the substrate. If you are treating the substrate with LEINOS Natural Resin Emulsion Paint if you want to pre-paint the surface, you can tint it a little more.
- Measure your pigment addition with a syringe from the pharmacy so that you can produce the same colour shade again at any time.
- When applying, make sure that you move the spatula in a different direction with each stroke so that the result is not too uniform.
- Do not leave the material too thick. The Scumble Filler is only designed for thin-layer application up to max. 1 mm wet layer thickness per application.
- A final wax application with subsequent polishing increases the surface protection.
- The LEINOS glaze filler technique can also be perfectly combined with the stencilling technique.

Drying time
Can be ploughed over after 2-3 hours, polishable after approx. 24 hours.

Consumption
Between 30 and 70 g/m² per coat depending on the type of design and application method.
