LEINOS products... and their raw materials

Selected raw materials: Key ingredients in all LEINOS products

Why raw materials play an important role at LEINOS

All the statistics show that allergies are on the rise. That is why more and more consumers are specifically looking for products that are made from natural and environmentally safe raw materials, whilst also meeting their high standards of quality. Consequently, our key criteria when selecting raw materials are the highest possible level of safety for humans, very good environmental compatibility and outstanding technical properties.

LEINOS has been highly successful in combining quality and environmental sustainability using natural raw materials. When selecting raw materials, we take into account toxicological data and the intended use. Even natural raw materials can cause adverse reactions; please therefore refer to the labelling and the safety data sheet for each individual product.

Our LEINOS products contain only around 150 raw materials. The impact on people and the environment is known and therefore manageable. Limiting our raw materials portfolio makes it easier for us to maintain centralised records and carry out regular assessments of the substances used.

The main ingredients of LEINOS products are: Vegetable drying oils, plant resins and waxes, beeswax, shellac, alcohol, mineral distillates, chalk, talc, clay, natural latex, milk casein, and the finest lightfast earth and mineral pigments.

Linseed oil as a drying oil for paints, varnishes and glazes

Oils can make delicate surfaces even smoother and fulfil many requirements. Depending on the formulation, substrate, build-up of layers, use and maintenance, drying oils can contribute to a coating’s resistance to weathering and ageing. We use clear linseed oil from the flax plant without any further additives. This pure raw material is used as a film-forming agent for paints and glazes with high weather and ageing resistance. In other words, it’s suitable for both outdoor and indoor use.

Clay for the natural regulation of humidity in the indoor environment

When humidity levels fluctuate indoors, we have just the thing to restore balance. Naturally mined clay regulates the balance here and impresses with its naturally beautiful surface. It creates an ideal indoor climate and is therefore used in the manufacture of our wall paint systems. Only selected clays and fine-grained sands are used, creating a harmonious atmosphere.

Beeswax for the care and finishing of wooden surfaces

The bee and the flower – a symbol of love. This union gives rise to an important raw material for our products: beeswax. The honeybee uses it to build the honeycombs for the egg-laying queen. We use it to finish and care for wooden surfaces. This natural, pleasantly scented beeswax is free from any chemical treatment.

Shellac for barrier coatings

The Asian lac bug produces this transparent resin from the sap of the fig tree. Shellac can form very dense films that are virtually impermeable to other substances. We utilise this property to manufacture specialised barrier coatings. When applied as part of a properly designed system, shellac-based barrier coatings can reduce the migration of certain substances from the substrate.

Carnauba wax for hard-wearing wooden surfaces

We are particularly fond of carnauba wax because it is the hardest known plant wax and is therefore highly resistant to intruders. It is derived from a Brazilian palm species, is very durable, exceptionally resilient and therefore particularly well suited to the treatment of wooden surfaces. It contains no chemical additives whatsoever.
