Substrate and preparation
The substrate must be dry (wood moisture content max. 14 per cent), clean and free of dust. The application temperature should preferably not be below 16 °C. At lower temperatures, drying times are prolonged. Finish sand the surfaces using at least 120-grit sandpaper or sanding mesh. Particularly absorbent substrates, such as cork, must be treated with Hard Oil 240 be primed.
Processing
Shake well before use. The Hardwax Oil is ready to use. Apply a thin, even coat using a short-pile sealing roller or mop, and spread it out thoroughly. Remove any excess after approx. 15–20 minutes and buff with a green pad. After 16–24 hours, apply a second thin coat and polish to a shine using a white pad. If the surface feels rough after the first coat, sand it lightly with 150–180 grit sandpaper. Remove all sanding dust thoroughly before applying the second coat. With cork, a third coat of Hardwax Oil may be required. Carry out a test application first! Ensure there is optimal fresh air circulation whilst applying and drying the products!
Care and follow-up treatment:
Floors treated with Hardwax Oil, featuring Vegetable Soap 930 (Add a maximum of 10–30 ml to 10 l of cleaning solution; use on a damp, not wet, surface) clean and, if necessary (when signs of wear appear), with Oil Refurbisher 285 maintain. Surfaces subject to heavy wear (schools, offices, etc.) should be treated 4 weeks after the last application with Hardwax Oil an initial basic treatment with Oil Refurbisher 285, after the floor has been Vegetable Soap 930 has been cleaned. Further maintenance with Oil Refurbisher should be carried out as and when required.
Drying time
The drying time is approx. 6–12 hours (20 °C / 50–55 per cent relative humidity). The second coat should be applied after 16–24 hours. Light use is possible after 3 days. Full use is possible after 7–14 days. To ensure thorough drying and to prevent odours, we always recommend using a fan to ensure adequate air circulation over the painted surface during the drying phase.
Consumption
30–50 ml/m²; coverage approx. 25 m²/l. Determine the exact consumption on site.
